Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 7

Another rainy day???  Must be time for some MOVIES! Saw this riveting documentary in a very exclusive screening.  Watch for an Indie Minute on this one soon!

Realized I wasn't getting enough of the gratuitous Palias pics to prove I'm actually still here...

I'm actually still here.  Obviously - this red carpet isn't ready for me.  There aren't nearly enough photographers on hand yet!

Cool little sculpture in front of the Lumiere. Someday kids'll ask, "What's all that stuff wrapped around the movie camera?" Eastman Kodak - RIP...

A busy night at the American Pavilion behind the 'Soda Stream' Counter.

Kinda just puts you in the mood for a warm cup of tea - doesn't it?

This is actually from a few days ago - but I draw your attention to the image on the lower left side.  See the guy hanging from the clock?  That little gem is from a silent Harold Lloyd film called Safety Last!

...which was being presented by the Lloyd's granddaughter Suzanne (Center) with an all new score composed and conducted by the man on the left - Carl Davis!  (He sat two seats down from me during the screening!)

At the end of the film, they showed us an even MORE digitally enhanced clip from the film that included some 3D effects!  It was VERY cool!

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 6

Apparently the Cannes Public Works crew also doubles at a Quidditch team...

'He's into me for everything I'm not - Accordion to you...' (Music in the air!)

Even with a storm brewing, the Mediterranean has a certain je ne sais quoi...?

This is the lovely Palais (where all the films are) from down on Vegaluna Beach (across from the Carlton!)

A chandelier in a temporary 'tent' at Vegaluna Beach overlooking a yacht.  This is just sooo Cannes!
Found some friendly Florida Faces at the FLIFF tent!  And look Chase - they're pimping your movie!  (Writer/Director Chase Conner, Less Lost)

The spirit of South Beach alive and well on the French Riviera!  (Okay - so Lauderdale isn't South Beach - but look at this photo and tell me I'm wrong!)

So I might have arrived just in time for the FLIFF/Cinequest party.  Nice spread - mais oui?

Okay ladies - forget all about 'box of wine.'  Olivier is bringing you the ultimate accessory - BAG of wine!!!

The party hit full swing much later in the evening!  Soooo...

I just HAD to hit the dance floor!  Vive la danse!

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 5

Another grey day, but the view from my 8th floor room is still manifique!

Mr. Spielberg - is that you???  (I have no idea if he's even ON a yacht - let alone one of these, however, it's worth speculating - no?)

La Vegatariene at this little sidewalk cafe. 45 minutes and 14 Euros... 10 minutes to eat and pay - meh... at least it looked pretty :D

The band at this Irish Pub a couple blocks from the Palais.

One of my 'roomies' - Maddie - a Flagler College girl!

And THESE guys again!  Strange how we keep bumping into each other :D

Another 'roomie' - Briana from Nebraska.  She's the cute chic - NOT the awkward photo bomber...

Cannes cookies!  Much less work than a real Palme d'Or and almost as sweet!

Cute cupcakes!  No euphemism intended...  (For the record - I did not eat any of these baked goods.  I stuck to the creme glacee...  )

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day Four

Even in the pouring rain, the Carlton shimmers like a jewel on the shore.  Across the street on the beach (in fully covered 'tents' of course) the party kicks into full swing for press, filmmakers and anyone else - as long as she's on the guest list!

I just might know some people working some internships for these companies at the moment.  Yes, I just might...

Look who I found in the Rush Line for Opening Night's Gatsby! It's always nice to see a friendly face in a foreign country... (With Andrew Ramos - ACTION!!!, Flashback, Random Acts of Insanity Improv Troupe - Daytona Beach)

THIS many friendly faces, however, might just be overkill!!! (With Will Phillips (Writer/Producer), Andrew Ramos (Actor), Brendan Jackson Ryan (Writer/Director/Producer) and Brian (Moral Support and GPS coordinator) - Delegation: Flashback)

Cautionary tale - This is what happens when you hand your camera to someone and ask them to take a group picture... Poor composition.  Lesson: Do not assume everyone at Cannes is a budding filmmaker - le sigh...

So - here's glimpse of ticketed guests climbing the red carpet to Gatsby in the rain AND the girl in purple is in my program.  I totally know her - I just can't remember her name...

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 3

It's OFFICIAL! I got my AmPav Polo and my Festival Credentials - It's kind of like unlocking an achievement that gets you into restricted parts of the game...

Six people from my mentor group were selected to intern with the prestigious London-based firm DDA Public Relations.  And here we are!

Yep - this is exactly where you think it is - outside the steps of the Palais!  Walking tour anyone?

It's the International village where all the hospitality pavilions are set up (including the American Pavilion - you know, what AmPav is short for.)  It's kind of like an Olympic Village for Filmmakers!

View from the top of the Palais.  Cool castle - right?

I'm not gonna tell distributors what to buy, but I'll be very disappointed if THIS gem doesn't make it out into the general public...

The Majestic - Home base for my Internship AND Catching Fire events!

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 2

--> Breakfast on the balcony - what a sunrise – Ooh la la!
--> Interns from programs in Film, Hospitality, Business and Culinary Arts – grand total 180!  The crazy thing is, everyone here is remarkably cool…
--> After our briefing, we divided into groups with our Mentors and took a walking tour of Cannes la Bocca.  Even the Police Station is so ‘provincial!’

--> Avant-garde filmmaker, Cannes Pro and Ticket Master Pip tries to give us a visual representation of just how many films there are each day to choose from.

--> Here is a pic of our esteemed panel of mentors.  From academics to distribution pros, to filmmakers with films in the Marche, and former talent agents – these people are awesome, and they REALLY know the industry!

Yes I CANNES Photo Blog - Day 1

Chocolate Lounge, Dublin, Ireland Airport - I was so exhausted after wrapping on #WavesOfGraceMovie, that I slept for most of my direct flight from MCO to Dublin, even though the plane was CRAWLING with kids under five - I blame the Mouse.  A pick-me-up was definitely in order before my connection to Nice.  Delirious with travel, I feared Chocolate Lounge was only a mirage. So I took pictures for proof of its existence!

Again, I slept almost all the way to my destination.  Fortunately I woke up in time for our descent.  Rustic architecture, lush mountains AND a sapphire coastline?  “Nice” was surely an understatement for this place.  I’d go with C’est Manifique!

The ‘suite’ I’m sharing with Briana (Nebraska,) Maddie (St. Augustine,) and Milykim (LA) is a little small.  But the view from our 8th (top) floor balcony MORE than makes up for our cramped quarters!  Besides, it’s not like we’re going to be spending much time at the hotel with our eyes open anyway…
